SANS Institute announces that SANS Fellow, Cyber Defense curriculum lead and course author Dr. Eric Cole is to be honoured with induction into the Infosecurity Europe Hall of Fame at Infosecurity Europe 2014.

The Infosecurity Europe Hall of Fame celebrates the achievements of internationally recognised Information Security practitioners and advocates. Previous inductees include Alan Paller, Eugene Kaspersky, Bruce Schneier and Mikko Hypponen amongst 25 alumni that have been honoured with the award since 2008.

On 1st May at 10:00am, Dr. Cole will offer a presentation at the InfoSec Europe “Keynote Theatre” which will provide a candid view of the current state of the industry and emerging threat landscape. In addition, Dr. Cole is available to the press and analyst community for one-to-one interviews during InfoSecurity Europe, with latitude to discuss a wide range of topics including his work in the UK with SANS Institute, the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and recent briefings with organisations within the Critical National Infrastructure, National Technical Authority for Information Assurance (CESG), National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) and the Counter Terrorism Security Advisor (CTSA) network.

Dr. Cole can also discuss the rise of “Cyber Insurgency” citing examples in Estonia, Syria, Libya and North Korea where physical war intersects with cyber insurgency used as a soft retaliation instead of a mismatched and potentially futile counter attack, an increasingly challenging issue with recent events in the east of Europe.  Dr. Cole is also an authority on how and why organisations are being compromised and what can be done to protect against the advanced, emerging threats.

Dr. Cole is an industry-recognised security expert with over 20 years of hands-on experience, a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from NYIT and a Doctorate from Pace University.  Dr. Cole is the author of several books, including Advanced Persistent Threat, Hackers Beware, Hiding in Plain Site, Network Security Bible, and Insider Threat.  He is the inventor of over 20 patents and is a researcher, writer, and speaker. He is also a member of the Commission on Cyber Security for the 44th President and several executive advisory boards.  Dr. Cole is founder of Secure Anchor Consulting in which he provides state of the art security services and expert witness work.  He also served as CTO of McAfee and Chief Scientist for Lockheed Martin. Dr. Cole is actively involved with the SANS Institute where he is a SANS faculty Fellow and course author.

The SANS Institute was established in 1989 as a cooperative research and education organization. SANS is the most trusted, and by far the largest source for world-class information security training and security certification in the world offering over 50 training courses. GIAC, an affiliate of the SANS Institute, is a certification body featuring over 27 hands-on, technical certifications in information security. SANS offers a myriad of free resources to the InfoSec community including consensus projects, research reports, and newsletters; and it operates the Internet’s early warning system – the Internet Storm Center. At the heart of SANS are the many security practitioners in varied global organizations from corporations to universities working together to help the entire information security community.
