G4S awarded renowned contractor health and safety accreditation

G4S Integrated Services, which specialises in providing integrated facilities management and specialist support services in critical environments, has been awarded SAFEcontractor accreditation for the high standard of health and safety provision maintained across all its contracts.

SAFEcontractor accreditation demonstrates the company’s commitment to maintaining the health and safety of its clients, staff and others affected by its operations. The certification will provide both existing and prospective customers with the reassurance that our health and safety practices have been independently verified and approved, and the accreditation is increasingly a differentiator in winning new business.

Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.

Companies that meet the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via the website www.safecontractor.com The database enables Employer organisations who sign up to the scheme to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These employers agree that as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have achieved accreditation.

More than one hundred and fifty major nationwide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for facilities management services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.

SAFEcontractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to facilities management, food manufacturer, property, retail and leisure sectors, all of which are big users of contract services.

Chris Elliott, Group Managing Director G4S Integrated Services commented: ”Our SAFEcontractor accreditation will help with attracting new business, demonstrating to potential new clients our genuine commitment to maintaining a high level of health and safety in the delivery of our contracts.”

John Kinge, Head of Risk at SAFEcontractor commented: “major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies. More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that G4S Integrated Services has done. G4S Integrated Services high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the facilities management sector”.
