Matalan Extends National Contract With Cordant Security

Edward Macfarlane, Managing Director at Cordant Security

Matalan, the leading fashion and homeware retailer, has extended its contract with Cordant Security for a further two years. It follows a successful six-year partnership during which Cordant Security has supported Matalan in its drive to minimise stock loss and create a safe working and shopping environment.

Under the terms of the deal, Cordant will continue to provide security support for Matalan’s UK network of stores. This includes delivering manned guarding, CCTV monitoring, front of house services and overnight patrols in some key areas. In addition Cordant will continue to work closely with the Matalan risk team, advising on major events such as store openings and the Boxing Day sales where crowd management can be a key issue. This follows the successful opening of its Oxford Street flagship store earlier this year which attracted queues of hundreds of visitors.

As part of the extended contract, Cordant Security will also be responsible for Matalan’s new head quarters in Knowsley and its four national distribution centres. A dedicated contract team will manage all aspects of the operations, driving continuous improvement.

Michael Chambers, Matalan’s Head of Business Risk, said: “We are delighted to continue the working relationship with Cordant. Their desire to drive innovation and added value whilst being a cost effective solution will help Matalan meet its loss agenda going forward.”

Lee Clark, Profit Protection Manager at Matalan, said: “This is a strong working partnership which has delivered key improvements over the past few years and will continue to do so. In addition, Cordant’s expertise and experience in managing large events has proved invaluable and we will continue to work closely with the team to assess all risk elements.”

Edward Macfarlane, Managing Director at Cordant Security, said: “We are increasingly becoming the partner of choice for retailers with a varied portfolio who are looking to deter theft and anti social behaviour, but also deliver a friendly, safe and inviting shopping experience. The expertise of our people, combined with our state of the art systems, means that we can deliver real bottom line benefits along with added brand value.”
