BSIA’S Norstrom Confirmed As Expert Panellist For Securing Educational Establishments Conference

Pauline Norstrom, Chairman of the British Security Industry Association’s CCTV Section, has been confirmed as an expert panellist at the forthcoming ‘Securing Educational Establishments’ Conference being held on 5th March at Jury’s Inn, Birmingham, which will feature high level representatives from the world of education, security and technology.

Norstrom will be able to bring her considerable expertise in CCTV standards and best practice to bear in her panellist role at the conference, as the head of the CCTV Section of the BSIA, its technical committee TC/10, and also as the sole security industry representative on the implementation Board of the National CCTV Strategy.

Said Pauline Norstrom: “I am delighted to have been asked to participate in a roundtable debate at the conference – alongside fellow panellists from education and the security industry – to consider the extent to which surveillance systems should be utilised in educational establishments. As part of the discussion we will be covering issues such as compliance with moral and legal issues; managing the interface between public and private domains; the effectiveness of CCTV and the potential for CCTV to be applied outside traditional applications.”

“When it comes to maximising the safety and security of today’s schools, colleges and universities, there are undoubtedly tremendous challenges for surveillance systems in terms of securing such large-scale and diverse campus environments, with multiple buildings often situated in fast moving urban areas. It is therefore imperative that great care and consideration is given to specifying the right CCTV infrastructure and sector-specific events – such as the conference – provide an invaluable forum to allow decision makers to reflect on these pressing issues and how they can best be tackled.”

Commented Chris Clarke, Conference Producer at IFSEC Conferences: “This is the first time the ‘Securing Educational Establishments’ conference is being held. Given the high calibre of speakers confirmed from security and from the education sector – Pauline Norstrom being a case in point – and a timely agenda covering the important topics of today, this conference will shape best practice for security in schools, colleges and universities.”
