G4S Appoints New Director Of Hmp Rye Hill

G4S Care & Justice Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Wheatley as the Director of HMP Rye Hill.  Tom will take over his new role in September following a short induction period. Before joining G4S Tom had previously worked for the prison service since 1994, most recently as Governor of HMP Moorlands, Category D men’s prison and Young Offenders Institution in Yorkshire.

Previously Tom was Governor at HMP Nottingham and had also worked at HMP Hull, HMP Full Sutton near York, in HM Prison Service HQ and at HMP Ranby. As the Governor of HMP Nottingham, he was also a member of the Nottinghamshire Criminal Justice Board, whilst at HMP Full Sutton he was responsible for the Security, Operations and the Special Secure Unit, which holds Exceptional Risk Category A prisoners. HMP Rye Hill is a category ‘B’ training prison situated in the village of Willoughby, near Rugby in Warwickshire, and holds up to 664 sentenced male adults.

David Banks, Group Managing Director for G4S Care & Justice Services, commented:

“We are delighted to be able to welcome Tom into the G4S family.  We believe his broad experience across the secure estate and his reputation for a strong commitment to improving offender management will put him in an excellent position to help drive the further improvement of standards at Rye Hill”.

Tom Wheatley commented:  “I am very excited to be joining G4S at this fascinating time for the future of the prison service and for Rye Hill.  I am very much looking forward to combining my experience within the prison service with the wide range of expertise of those within the G4S Care & Justice team, both those at Rye Hill and in the wider business.”
