Offender Removed From Working In Private Security Industry

SIAAn unlicensed door supervisor has been sentenced for working without a Security Industry Authority licence.

Matthew Corbett, of Gospel Oak Road, Coventry, was sentenced at Coventry Magistrates Court to a Community Service Order and to undertake 100 hours of unpaid work. Corbett was also ordered to pay costs of nearly £6,000.

Corbett, 29, was the subject of an SIA investigation after intelligence was received suggesting that he was working unlicensed, as a door supervisor, for Coventry based A1 Protection Services.

Further enquiries established that Corbett was working at various licensed premises in Nuneaton, Sleaford and Skipton as well as providing security at an under 18s disco.

Due to previous convictions dating back to 2009, Corbett was precluded from holding an SIA licence; these convictions also led to a ban on working with children.

SIA Head of Investigation Nathan Salmon said:

“This case is a clear example of how, due to previous convictions, an individual would not have passed the rigorous checks carried out by the SIA to work in the private security industry. Once the intelligence was received, SIA investigators moved quickly to ensure Mr Corbett worked at no future events.

“We are pleased that we were able to act on information we received and use our powers under the law to remove this individual from working in a licensable role; demonstrating our ongoing commitment to protecting the public”
