Unique Events, organisers of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, has expanded its working relationship with G4S Events. G4S Events will provide additional organisational support for the Scottish capital’s world-leading New Year celebrations to help ensure the continued excellent safety record of the event. Working in partnership with Unique Events, The City of Edinburgh Council and emergency services, G4S Events - the Leith-based event division of the world’s leading security solutions group - will provide safety advice and teams of expert stewards for all the outdoor events taking place as part of this year’s Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, The stewards, most of whom live locally, will help ensure people attending the wide range of events have a safe and enjoyable time.
Capital-based Unique Events organises the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations on
behalf of City of Edinburgh Council and
Edinburgh-based security firm Rock Steady, now G4S, has been with them since the
beginning. The world famous event is now in its 17th
year and G4S has been instrumental in making Edinburgh’s Hogmanay a safety
template for outdoor events around the world. Working closely with Unique events
and the emergency services during the planning process the G4S management team
help ensure a solid infrastructure for the event. During this year’s five day
winter festival, G4S staff will carry out a range of duties including the
safeguarding of entrance and exit points, ticket checking, securing the
fireworks sites and protecting VIP areas.
This year’s expanded programme of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay features music, dance,
art, conversation, fireworks, and street theatre from 29 December 2009 until 2
January 2010. Brand new events and popular favourites will bring Edinburgh’s
streets alive with non-stop enjoyment for both residents and visitors to
Scotland’s capital city. Highlights include
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party when 80,000 partygoers from Scotland and all
across the globe will join together in Princes Street to celebrate the New Year
against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh and the Old Town, and the music and
fireworks spectacular,
Concert in the Gardens, headlined by Madness with very special guests Noisettes
and Codeine Velvet Club.
A packed programme also features family favourite, the
Torchlight Procession, when an expected 20,000 people will create a river of
fire as they move in procession through Edinburgh’s Old Town led by the mighty
Lerwick Up Helly AA Vikings and the massed pipes and drums. Revellers will birl
through the bells accompanied by the best in traditional Scottish music at
The Keilidh, and the massive 8m tall Big Man who attracted huge crowds as he
walked throughout Scotland this autumn, is reawakened in
New Man Walking to walk the capital’s historic Royal Mile, from Holyrood Palace
to the Tron.
