Skills for Security has entered into a partnership with C-TEC aimed at expanding training opportunities for apprentice fire and security technicians, with a focus on access to current technologies and closer engagement with industry specialists.
As part of the collaboration, C-TEC will support training delivery through the provision of equipment, technical resources and input from its engineering and product development teams. Apprentices will take part in demonstrations and technical discussions designed to illustrate how system design decisions influence performance, usability and ongoing maintenance requirements.
The programme will give apprentices practical exposure to fire alarm, evacuation alert and lockdown systems in use across the UK. This will support their understanding of how such systems are designed, installed and maintained in accordance with relevant British Standards and industry regulations.
Says Andy Green, Marketing Director at C-TEC: “C-TEC recognizes the importance of ensuring new technicians are trained using equipment they will encounter throughout their careers. By supporting Skills for Security, we can help apprentices develop the confidence and technical understanding needed to work with life-safety systems responsibly and competently. Our aim is to contribute to a well-prepared workforce that can maintain the standards to ensure compliance.”
The partnership aligns with the growing emphasis on competence across the fire safety sector. As technologies develop and regulatory requirements continue to evolve, engineers are increasingly required to demonstrate higher levels of technical understanding and professional accountability.
Collaboration between manufacturers and training providers is seen as a key factor in preparing apprentices to meet these expectations and to operate effectively within regulated environments.
David Scott, Managing Director at Skills for Security, added: “Partnering with C-TEC gives our apprentices hands-on experience with current systems while combining technical expertise and training to develop knowledgeable, confident fire and security professionals. This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to practical learning, industry standards, and the continued commitment to a skilled, safety-focused workforce.”
