Skills for Security is participating in The Security Event to emphasize the role of structured training and apprenticeships in supporting skills and competence across the fire and security sectors.
With a football theme marking the World Cup, the organization’s stand (4/P10), located between the fire and security sections of the show, features a dedicated area aimed at engaging installers from across the UK. The stand highlights how upskilling existing teams and recruiting apprentices can strengthen the workforce.
The stand also hosts the National Qualifiers of the WorldSkills UK Electronic Fire and Security Competition, which will see 30 apprentices competing to showcase practical skills and industry knowledge. The competition covers fire systems, intrusion detection, and access control, reflecting the competencies required for engineers entering the sector.
David Scott, Managing Director of Skills for Security, said: “The Security Event is a key date in our diary, allowing us to bring skills and apprenticeships into a very visible space. Positioning ourselves between fire and security reflects how closely connected these sectors are when it comes to training, competence and future workforce needs. Additionally, the competition gives apprentices a chance to demonstrate what they can do and gives employers confidence in the standard of talent coming through.”
As part of its focus on diversity, Skills for Security has involved a female judge from SSAIB for the first time, aiming to encourage more female apprentices to enter the competition. Increasing female representation continues to be a priority, supporting inclusive career pathways within the industry.
David Scott added: “Everything we are doing at The Security Event and beyond is about strengthening the future of the industry. By investing in apprentices, promoting diversity and working closely with our partners, we are helping to build a skilled and confident workforce that the fire and security sectors can rely on for years to come.”
The competition is supported by its industry partners. Lead Partners—The Security Event, CSL, Texecom and Paxton—ensure the competition remains accessible, relevant and valuable to both apprentices and employers. Supporting Partners—C-TEC, GS Yuasa Battery, Dahua, NSI and SSAIB—provide resources, expertise and services to enhance the competition and its delivery.
