Securitas UK welcomed 16 cadets to the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh for the organisation’s annual Live Fire Cadets Weekend, held from 3rd to 5th October. The immersive training programme delivered a series of high-intensity, practical exercises designed to equip cadets with the knowledge, confidence, and teamwork skills required to respond to real-world fire and emergency scenarios.
The initiative focuses on developing both individual competence and collaborative coordination—key attributes for those who may go on to serve within the UK’s emergency fire contingency workforce. Across the weekend, cadets participated in a comprehensive series of drills, including live fire behaviour demonstrations and hose-handling sessions, designed to deepen their understanding of fire dynamics and tactical response.
The training placed particular emphasis on operating safely under pressure, with cadets tackling a range of critical incident simulations. From managing road traffic collisions to entering low-visibility environments filled with simulated smoke, participants gained first-hand experience in adapting to unpredictable and hazardous conditions. A key highlight of the weekend was a domestic fire scenario, during which cadets demonstrated both courage and composure while managing complex firefighting challenges.
The final day culminated in a large-scale exercise set within a mock commercial premises, replicating the demands of an active fire environment. Donning full breathing apparatus, cadets were tasked with rescuing casualties and bringing the fire under control—an exercise that tested every aspect of their training and teamwork.
Following the live scenarios, the weekend concluded with an Awards Ceremony recognising the cadets’ achievements. Each participant received a trophy for their commitment and performance, with additional accolades presented to those who excelled during the training.
Paul Rankin, Director of Fire & Aviation at Securitas UK, said, “I am thrilled to have welcomed another group of 16 young individuals to the Fire College for our annual Fire Cadets weekend.
We are always impressed by the level of commitment and dedication the cadets give over the course of the training. We hope to continue to strengthen our partnership with the London Fire Brigade cadets and are proud to have provided.”
The Live Fire Cadets Weekend continues to serve as a cornerstone of Securitas UK’s commitment to professional development and public safety, offering a rare opportunity for young people to gain hands-on experience in emergency response within a controlled, expert-led environment.
