Skills for Security has revealed the eight outstanding finalists advancing to the WorldSkills UK 2025 Fire & Security competition – a prestigious national event spotlighting the next generation of skilled professionals in the sector.
This annual competition serves as a launchpad for rising talent and plays a key role in raising industry standards, while also showcasing the dynamic and fulfilling career paths within fire and security.
“WorldSkills UK gives apprentices the chance to put their skills to the test in a real-world environment, where technical ability, attention to detail and professionalism are key,” says Darrell Gilmour, Director of Technical Training at Skills for Security. “It is through experiences like this that we see confidence grow, standards rise, and future industry specialists emerge. This is all while showcasing just how rewarding a career in fire and security can be.”
The road to the finals began in April at The Security Event, where apprentices participated in three rigorous days of practical challenges, evaluating their wiring, installation capabilities, and knowledge of industry compliance.
Qualifiers were held under the watchful eyes of expert judges from the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) and the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB), in a demanding environment that called for both technical precision and professional discipline.
Now, eight talented individuals have earned their place in the National Finals for 2025.
Among them are Skills for Security apprentices Matthew Cox (DCA Security Systems) and Joseph Jenkins (AGS Security Systems), whose achievements underscore both their personal dedication and the quality of the training they’ve received.
They’ll compete alongside six other finalists from across the UK:
Joe Meara (Hopwood Hall / Check Fire and Security)
Toby Moulder (SGS College / APM Fire and Security Ltd)
Zeki Kaya (South Eastern Regional College / Specialised Fire and Security)
Luke Wilson (South Eastern Regional College / Atlas World)
Alex Punyer (South Eastern Regional College / ADT)
Declan Oniell (Banham / ADT)
Darrell added: “WorldSkills UK is about opening doors for finalists, from career advancement and international recognition to personal growth. We are proud to support initiatives that empower the next generation of fire and security professionals, and the calibre of this year’s finalists gives us real confidence in the future of the industry. We wish each and every one success and look forward to seeing them shine on the national stage.”
The competition benefits from the support of major sponsors including CSL Group, The Security Event, and Texecom, with additional backing from Eaton, GS Yuasa Battery, Fenix Monitoring, Honeywell, and Dahua. Oversight and integrity are ensured by the expert judging panel from NSI and SSAIB, maintaining rigorous professional standards throughout the process.
The WorldSkills UK National Finals 2025 will take place at the Waterfront Campus of Trinity Saint David in Swansea on the 26th and 27th of November, with the awards ceremony hosted at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Newport on November 28th.
