Mitie has secured a two-year extension to its security services contract with Birmingham Airport, continuing a partnership that has been in place for more than 13 years.
The agreement covers a range of security and baggage screening services across the airport estate. Birmingham Airport recorded 13.6 million passengers last year, its highest annual total to date.
As part of the extension, Mitie will recruit an additional 60 security officers to support airport operations. The company will also provide security support for ongoing construction work linked to the redevelopment of the airport terminal.
The contract also includes the introduction of four additional security vehicles to support incident response and operational coordination across the site.
Mitie said it will continue supporting Birmingham Airport’s chosen charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Employees have previously raised more than £38,000 through fundraising activities, including participation in the airport’s “Race the Plane” challenge.
Gary Culloden, Managing Director, Security, Mitie, said: “Our continued partnership with Birmingham Airport recognises the outstanding commitment of our security officers, who help keep the airport running safely day in, day out. As we welcome new colleagues to the team, we look forward to strengthening our capability on the ground and equipping them with specialised training, so passengers can travel with confidence.”
Caroline Milnes, Head of Aviation Security commenting on the extension, said: “Mitie has been a partner of Birmingham Airport (BHX) for over 13 years. This long-standing relationship strengthens our existing security measures and enhances the mitigations we have in place, ensuring that our customers can travel safely and with confidence.”
