Amthal has introduced Protecting What’s Precious, a campaign aimed at supporting nursery providers as they consider the role of CCTV within early years settings.
The initiative is intended to help nurseries assess CCTV as part of a wider safeguarding approach, while recognising that each setting has different operational requirements and priorities.
According to the company, the campaign provides guidance, tailored support and system design advice to help providers determine whether CCTV could complement their existing safeguarding arrangements.

Parents place enormous trust in early years professionals every day, and nursery teams work tirelessly to create spaces where children feel secure, supported and able to flourish.
“Conversations around CCTV in nursery environments must be approached with care, sensitivity and a clear understanding of safeguarding in practice. Our aim is simply to help nursery providers consider what is right for their setting, their staff and the families they support, recognising that every environment is different.”
Amthal said that where CCTV is introduced, it should form part of a broader safeguarding strategy rather than operate as a standalone measure. The company notes that, when supported by appropriate governance, CCTV can assist leadership teams in reviewing incidents, maintaining operational oversight and supporting accountability.
The campaign also highlights considerations including privacy, transparency and regulatory compliance. Areas such as camera positioning, access controls, data protection and the secure management of recorded footage are identified as key elements of any CCTV deployment within nursery environments.
To support implementation, Amthal works with technology partners including Dahua to develop CCTV systems designed to meet the safeguarding and operational requirements of individual nursery settings.
