7/7 counter terror chief appointed by MITIE

The former Head of Counter Terrorism at the City of London Police has been appointed by leading strategic outsourcing company MITIE as Strategic Advisor for police and public services.

Brett Lovegrove’s primary role will be to advise MITIE’s high profile clients in the banking, retail and property sectors on security, business continuity and counter terrorism – especially those within the UK’s critical national infrastructure, for example utility and banking companies.

Mr Lovegrove will represent MITIE at The Home Office and CBI on high level policing and relevant security matters. Mr Lovegrove, who was Head of Counter Terrorism at the City of London police during the London transport system bombings in 2007, brings a wealth of experience to the role, including an understanding of counter terrorism, business continuity, risk analysis and emergency planning – all of which he will advise MITIE clients on.

MITIE’s security division is one of the largest in the UK with over 12,500 people working across 10,000 sites providing bespoke services to a broad range of clients.

Announcing the appointment, Bob Forsyth, managing director, security, said: “I am delighted that Brett is joining the team. His expertise and experience will be a real asset to our total security management approach to the public and private sectors and will also provide invaluable support to our clients.”

Mr Lovegrove said: “Terrorism, natural disasters and crime continue to pose a threat to business continuity and my role will be to advise clients on risk reduction, protection and resilience against attacks. The recent announcement that the Real IRA will target bankers in the City is a prime example of why UK companies need to plan for the unexpected. I look forward to further developing MITIE’s security strategy with its variety of clients across the UK.”

Mr Lovegrove will work within MITIE’s Risk and Resilience team, conducting risk analysis and informing MITIE of current security issues through his links to the Home Office, Office of Security and Counter Terrorism and the wider police community.

Mr Lovegrove is also a director of the City Security and Resilience Network (CSARN) and a member of the Defence and Security Committee in the London Chamber of Commerce.
