Amulet Secure 13-Month Contract with Docklands Light Rail (DLR)

Amulet_security_logoAmulet has been awarded a 13-month contract with Docklands Light Railway (DLR), as part of DLR’s concession agreement. The contract encompasses access control management at the gatehouse and front-of-house security services at the Beckton and Poplar depots. Amulet’s efforts will center on improving security measures at these key locations to enhance safety and instill confidence among railway users.

The Docklands Light Railway, an extension of Transport for London (TfL), serves the docklands area and connects major financial hubs along the Thames. With an average of 325,000 trips made on weekdays, the DLR facilitates approximately 92.3 million passenger journeys annually. TfL recently granted KeolisAmey an eight-year contract to operate the DLR on its behalf.

Amulet specializes in transport sector security, with a client portfolio that includes Northern Trains, Avanti West Coast, East Midlands Trains, and c2c. This expertise played a significant role in securing the DLR contract through a competitive tender process.

DLR also valued Amulet’s commitment to workforce management and its strong reputation in the transport industry. Since the partnership began, Amulet has introduced innovative measures such as a trial of a sound detection app designed to identify verbal aggression and property damage. The company has also identified the need for enhanced surveillance, including additional CCTV towers and on-site guards, to deter graffiti.

Furthermore, Amulet deployed its mobile CCTV control and command vehicle at events like the London Marathon, providing supplementary coverage and serving as a deterrent against anti-social behavior. These efforts underscore Amulet’s proactive approach to security in the transport sector.

Kieran Mackie, managing director at Amulet, said: “We were delighted to start what we hope will be a long and successful partnership with such a prestigious transport network. We’re looking forward to implementing our recommendations and enhancing the existing security operations.”

Alisa Sultmane, head of security and emergency planning at DLR, said: “Amulet’s reputation for excellence and dedication preceded them during the selection process. Immediately after the contract start, Amulet became more of a partner to us than a supplier by involving us in innovation days, providing proposals for new solutions and trialling new technology to enhance security across the depots. Their commitment to our partnership and innovative approach to security management make them the ideal choice for helping us to hit our objectives.”
