Securitas are pleased to announce that their Head of Learning & Development in the UK, Emily O’Mahony, has won a coveted BSIA Chairman’s Award for 2016.
The Awards, held annually, recognise individuals and organisations that have made a special contribution to training, community, export, the industry or standards. They are presented at a prestigious ceremony at the BSIA Annual Luncheon, this year held at the London Hilton on Park Lane on 12th July.
Since joining Securitas UK in November 2014, Emily has led the business’s revitalised focus on the training and development of its 13,000 officers, leading in turn to measurable improvements in skills and output. The strategy has enabled all frontline staff to benefit from a highly effective training journey, in which its flagship new state-of-the-art Training & Development Academy plays a vital role. Opened last year, the Academy is located within the company’s new Operations Centre in Milton Keynes and staffed by a team of experts delivering a curriculum that is relevant, contemporary and motivational.
Emily has been instrumental in conceiving and developing this vision and building a learning and development culture across the group. The introduction of a competency-based learning approach has resulted in an emphasis on performance development rather than performance management, with each member of the workforce understanding their respective contribution to the success of the business. She has also introduced detailed training programmes for the company’s managers in order to ensure the effective development of their vital strategic, commercial and leadership skills.
Emily’s other achievements include the appointment of Securitas UK as a City & Guilds Accredited Training Centre and the creation of a City & Guilds-accredited Protective Services Officer training programme. Both demonstrating the company’s commitment to the improvement and recognition of security personnel in the UK.
Announcing the awards, BSIA Chairman Dirk Wilson said: “I am proud to be able to recognise these individuals whose commitment and dedication has made a lasting impression on our industry, both in the UK and abroad. The actions of this year’s winners have all served to promote our industry in a positive light and I am delighted to be able to commend the impact they have made.”
