Keighley Marine & Sea Cadets are riding on the crest of a wave after taking delivery of a second minibus sponsored by Yorkshire regional security group Select.
A recent surge in membership created the need for an additional vehicle and Pete Spencer, who heads up the Shipley-based Select Group and provides security at Keighley Marine & Sea Cadets’ Briggs Maritime House headquarters in the town’s Waddington Street, stepped in to provide the minibus and give it a new livery.
Established in Cross Roads in 1964, membership of the unit has grown from around 12 to 52 over the past three years, supported by a 12-strong team of volunteer staff and a unit management committee made up of parents and supporters.
Committee chairman Councillor Brian Morris said: “The unit continues to go from strength to strength and we urgently needed a second minibus to transport cadets to external events and training sessions for various qualifications on Ponden Reservoir. Select Group’s support and generosity has allowed us to do just that. It is very much appreciated.”
Select continues to be a major sponsor of community and sport-related initiatives across the region. Many have an accent on youth. “We are fully committed to helping children and young people develop their skills and talents. Keighley Marine & Sea Cadets are thriving and it’s a pleasure to support such a successful unit,” said Mr Spencer
Select Group’s services include static security guarding, mobile security patrols, key holding and intruder alarm activation response, door supervision, private events, weddings and celebrity security, and tour management. Its fast-expanding UK Bailiffs and Enforcement arms now operates nationally.
