Corps Security takes leading role in counter-terrorism debate

Corps Security’s Consulting Division continues to play a leading role in the evolving debate around effective practices in counter-terrorism.

Mike Bluestone, Corps Security‟s Principal Consultant, recently delivered a speech at the Foretags Universiteit in Sweden in which he outlined emerging trends and developments in the corporate security sector, including the importance of “Security Risk Convergence” in terrorism prevention. Convergence is a process which brings all those dedicated to security, whether this is physical or information security, together for the benefit of the organisation.

“The traditional „silo‟ (or not in my back yard mentality) is just not fit for purpose in 21st century security risk management,” Mike told the high level delegates. “Is it not more helpful to look at your security profile in terms of actual and potential converged security risks rather than specific risks to a single asset, person, process, department, company, or business application.”

Earlier in December, Mike again contributed to the counter-terrorism debate, by chairing the first day of a two-day conference in London on the subject. Amongst other things, the Counter-Terrorism Conference 2010 examined the utilisation of the latest technology, protection of critical infrastructure and public place and prevention of future attacks. The list of speakers included senior individuals from ACPO, the National Counter Terrorism Security Office, the British Transport Police and Transport for London.

Mike‟s knowledge of counter-terrorism has been built up from working in both military and police arenas within the United Kingdom as well as overseas, including the Middle East. At Corps Security, he advises clients in both the public and private sectors on appropriate measures to put in place to counter these and other threats.

Peter Webster, Chief Executive of Corps Security, said: “It can be a real struggle for security managers to keep up to speed on best practice in countering terrorism. The leadership position that Mike is playing in this area ensures that Corps Security clients stay on top of the latest and best thinking available.”
