G4S ensures a safe start to 2011 at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations

G4S Secure Solutions (UK) (‘G4S’) provided stewarding and security for the 18th Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party, which took place between Thursday 30th December 2010 and Saturday 1st Jan 2011.

Approximately 400 staff were deployed for the event, which was held on and around Prince’s Street in Edinburgh, providing useful information to revellers and assistance when called upon while ensuring a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.

During the event G4S worked alongside Lothian and Borders Police, which provided around 330 officers, to ensure that proceedings passed smoothly, with only one arrest for minor disorder being made out of over 80,000 partygoers at the event.

Mark Hamilton, Managing Director, G4S Events commented: “Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is one of the most famous New Year celebrations in the world and we take great pride in providing security throughout the event.

“Whilst providing the highest standard of security, we also endeavour to make the event as relaxed and fun as possible, as we appreciate that the event is a celebration to be enjoyed by the thousands of people who choose to see in the New Year at the Street Party.

“G4S is proud to be setting the standard for New Year’s Eve security and looks forward to securing the event for years to come.”

Mike McCormick, Assistant Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders Police commented: “Once again the revellers in Edinburgh impressed us with their behaviour and attitude. Only one arrest was made by our officers at the event and we would like to thank everyone there for helping create a fun, safe atmosphere to welcome in 2011.

“Lothian and Borders Police would like to thank the public for ensuring that this year’s Hogmanay celebrations passed smoothly.”

G4S has worked closely with the local police, emergency services and the event organiser every year since the street party’s conception in 1994 to provide an unparalleled party atmosphere throughout the course of the event. G4S has also expanded its Hogmanay operations to reflect the growing size and popularity of the event without losing the unique atmosphere which lies at the heart of the event.
