G4S Events, Europe’s leading independent event safety and security company, will provide security support for the nineteenth consecutive year, at the world-famous Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations, as 80,000 people celebrate New Year in the Scottish capital.
The G4S team of more than 400 employees will be providing a range of security and safety management services during the night’s festivities which include conducting ticket checks and bag searches at the five entry gates across the site, as well as securing each venue’s stage and VIP areas.
Organised by Edinburgh-based company Unique Events, and The City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay will be monitored by expert G4S stewards – many of whom are from the surrounding area.
In addition to crowd management and admission control, G4S will supply revellers with a pocket guide that gives top tips on how to make the most of the festival such as wearing warm clothing, drinking responsibly, personal property safety, agreeing a meeting point with friends, and planning journeys home in advance.
The annual Scottish winter festival will take place from 30 December to 1 January and will incorporate a range of entertainment from live music, DJ sets, and dancing to street games and firework displays.
Highlights planned for the 2011 event include performances from rock legends Primal Scream, to Mark Ronson and Friendly Fires, a Torchlight Procession through the streets of the city attended by over 20,000 visitors, and a Candlelit Concert at Edinburgh’s famous St Giles’ Cathedral.
Eric Alexander, managing director of G4S Events, commented: “Our close partnership with the organisers of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay ensures that we deliver the best level of security and safety support to the many thousands of people who come to the city from around the world to take part in the celebration.
“The dedication of our team means that attendees can be granted a fantastic weekend safe in the knowledge that their wellbeing is in safe hands.”
Pete Irvine, festival director at Unique Events, added: “As one of the world’s most famous outdoor events, it is vital that we have a security and safety management team on board who we can trust to make sure that visitors enjoy the festival safely.
“We have a longstanding relationship with G4S and look forward to working with them on what promises to be another fantastic event”
