A security services provider has been working with a secondary school in Essex to support students preparing for employment and further education.
Land Sheriffs delivered a ‘Mock Interview Day’ for Year 11 students at Passmores Academy in Harlow. The session was led by managing director James Coyle and HR advisor Karen Gladish, who conducted interviews with ten students, reviewed CVs and provided feedback on interview technique.
The activity forms part of the school’s careers programme, designed to give students exposure to recruitment processes and workplace expectations.
“It was a really rewarding day, for us and hopefully for the students too. Everyone was engaged and open to feedback, and it’s clear to see the next generation are thinking seriously about their next steps after school,” says James Coyle, Managing Director of Land Sheriffs.
Students also used the session to ask questions about pathways after school, including apprenticeships, further education and interview preparation.
Following the event, a student contacted the company to describe the experience of taking part in a simulated interview and the impact it had on their confidence.
“It’s important that young people are given the opportunity to understand what the workplace is like. Sessions like this help bridge that gap between education and employment. It’s about giving students practical knowledge that can genuinely make a difference,” adds James.
Passmores Academy has since invited the company to take part in future careers events for younger year groups, including Year 7 and Year 8.
In addition, James Coyle is set to contribute to the school’s mentoring programme, supporting Year 10 and Year 11 students as they prepare for post-16 options.
Land Sheriffs also engages with the school through the Rail Safe Friendly programme, which focuses on rail safety awareness. The initiative provides e-learning modules aimed at improving understanding of risks associated with railway environments.
“Passmores Academy is one of 10 schools we partner with through the Rail Safe Friendly initiative. So far, over 1,000 students at the school have completed e-learning courses as part of the programme, which is something we’re incredibly proud of. We value our ongoing partnership and remain committed to delivering meaningful education that helps keep young people safe,” concludes James.
Land Sheriffs operates in the UK security sector, providing services including mobile patrols, manned guarding, welfare patrols and CCTV monitoring.
