MITIE, the strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has been selected to provide a three year security services contract to the University of Greenwich and the Greenwich Foundation.
The University of Greenwich contract covers its three campuses in South East London and Kent, including its main campus within the Old Royal Naval College, one of the UK’s leading heritage attractions which sits at the heart of the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The security contract also covers the campuses at Avery Hill, which includes a listed Victorian mansion housing a library sited in a former ballroom and an elegant winter garden; and at Medway, where the university campus includes several listed Edwardian buildings in the former naval training base at Chatham Maritime, Kent.
MITIE has also won the contract for the whole of the entire Old Royal Naval College site, Sir Christopher Wren’s twin domed riverside masterpiece, which is managed by the Greenwich Foundation and includes the stunning Painted Hall, the beautiful chapel and the popular Discover Greenwich visitor and interpretation centre.
The contracts were secured following two separate competitive tender processes and MITIE was chosen based on its experience in the higher education sector and fresh thinking and innovation around the service delivery.
Commenting on the contract award, John Wills, Managing Director, London, MITIE Total Security Management said: “We’re delighted to have been selected by the University of Greenwich and the Greenwich Foundation.
We are exciting to be working with such inspirational organisations and I’m confident that we will work in partnership with the University to enhance its student experience and support the excellent work of the Greenwich Foundation.”
Chris Powner, Director of Facilities Management at the University of Greenwich added: “Following a very competitive tendering exercise, we are delighted to have appointed MITIE to deliver the University’s security service over the next three years.
Not only did their offer represent best value to the University, but their existing experience of delivering security services demonstrated a reassuring understanding of the University’s needs.”
