A Nottinghamshire-based national security services company is making advancements in health and safety through the development of a new app and the appointment of a notable industry expert.
Octavian Security UK has appointed Kul Mahay as Director of Risk and Strategy. In this role, Mahay will focus on police liaison efforts for high-risk sites and oversee the implementation of the Octavian Safety App, with a particular focus on enhancing security at construction sites.
Kul Mahay brings over 32 years of experience from his time as a senior Police Commander, where he managed complex investigations, commanded critical incidents, and led large teams through challenging situations. His expertise will contribute to the ongoing development and deployment of the Octavian Safety App, designed to improve real-time risk reporting on-site. The app allows users to report potential risks and incidents as they occur, aiding in the prevention of health and safety issues while also preserving evidence for potential legal proceedings.
Kul said: “It’s really great to join Octavian at such an exciting time and I’m looking forward to seeing how the new app will transform health and safety, as well as Real-Time Incident Reporting.
“Real-time reporting of these incidents is crucial in mitigating risk. This is a new collective responsibility app. Everyone will have the app and they report incidents and potential incidents that could be problematic – for example, if they see a hazard, it is reported on the app and this pings out to all the workforce and allows for rectification. This was trialled in the mining industry in Arizona and now will be rolled out in the UK – it’s set to bring huge benefits to Octavian’s clients.”
In addition to his extensive experience in law enforcement, Mahay has held senior leadership positions for over 15 years and has served as a Gold Commander for major incidents. He is also recognized for his insights on leadership, organisational culture, and emotional intelligence, frequently contributing to discussions on these topics.
Mahay is involved in several initiatives outside of security work, including serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the True Honour charity, which is dedicated to combating honour-based abuse. He is also a TEDx speaker and media commentator, regularly appearing on television and radio to discuss leadership and organisational practices. Mahay hosts the ‘Unlocking Leadership’ radio show and the ‘Human Centred Leadership’ podcast, both of which are popular with listeners worldwide.
Sanjay Patel, commercial director of Octavian Security UK, added: “We’re delighted to have Kul on board.
“Kul is recognised as a top leadership and emotional intelligence specialist. He has extensive experience in safety and detailed security diagnosis and transformation, leadership development, executive coaching, conflict resolution, development of executive teams, HR transformation and serious and large-scale investigations, critical and major incident command and contingency planning working right up executive level.
“He will transform our police liaison work as we roll-out our new Octavian Safety App and bring numerous new skills to our team. We’re very grateful to have him as part of our team.”
