Octavian Security, a company based in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, has announced the launch of two new specialist units: Octavian Elite and Octavian Ex Police.
These divisions aim to provide tactical security services delivered by individuals with backgrounds in the British Armed Forces and UK police. Their focus includes offering protection to businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and critical infrastructure.
The company is led by Director Kul Mahay, a former Police Commander with Derbyshire Constabulary. Mahay previously served as a Gold Commander and has more than 20 years of experience in overseeing critical and major policing operations.
Octavian’s new initiative responds to concerns over crime rates and resource limitations in public law enforcement. The company states that the new divisions are designed to operate in areas particularly susceptible to theft, vandalism, or targeted criminal activity.
Kiran Ghuman, CEO of Octavian Security, commented: “We are stepping into a gap that can no longer be ignored. These divisions aren’t just about uniforms – they represent unmatched expertise, crisis readiness and the discipline that comes from military and law enforcement backgrounds.”
The services provided by the two divisions include executive protection, security for high-risk corporate and residential environments, surveillance and threat detection, emergency response, asset transport, and operations in hostile environments.
Octavian Elite comprises personnel from former British Armed Forces, including the Parachute Regiment, Royal Marines, RAF Regiment, and Gurkhas. Octavian Ex Police includes former UK police officers, some with expertise in firearms, public order, and investigative roles.
Both divisions receive further instruction at the Octavian Elite Training Academy. The training focuses on areas such as behavioural detection, crisis response, covert surveillance, and cyber threat awareness.
Staff from the new divisions are expected to operate in a range of environments, including executive and celebrity protection, luxury residential security, high-value retail and jewellery premises, critical infrastructure sites, pharmaceutical facilities, corporate headquarters, financial institutions, high-risk public events, football matches, and court or prison-related duties.
“This is not about replacing our valuable police services; we’re here to support them and provide the protection that’s often missing in the private sector,” said Kul Mahay. He added: “Our divisions offer highly trained professionals who can respond at a moment’s notice, with military-grade readiness and a solid understanding of the legal framework around security. We strongly believe in creating opportunities for former police officers and military personnel to continue to provide a service to others by using their valuable skills, honed over years of experience.”
Octavian is currently recruiting individuals with relevant experience, including veterans of the armed forces, former police officers, and professionals with experience in firearms, criminal investigations, and public policing roles.
Kiran Ghuman said: “This is about offering former service personnel a meaningful second career. Their skills are essential in today’s complex security landscape. We’ve reached a point where expecting miracles from low-wage security guards is unrealistic. The need for trained experienced professionals has never been greater. With rising crime rates and strained resources, private security must evolve to meet these challenges.”
The company states that its new divisions aim to provide personnel with operational experience and targeted training to address the demands of high-risk environments.
