In recognition of more than a decade of work on the formulation and development of standards for the security sector, Skyguard Director, Patrick Dealtry, has been presented with the British Security Industry Association Chairman’s Award for Contribution to Standards. The prestigious Chairman’s Awards are made at the discretion of the BSIA chairman and committee to publicly acknowledge the commitment and effort of the finest individuals in the security industry. A former chairman of the BSI GW3 Committee, in which role he guided the development of UK and European standards relating to manned security services, Patrick Dealtry was also the instigator and driving force behind the development of the BS 8484:2009 Code of Practice for the provision of lone worker device services. This groundbreaking document is now recognised as the yardstick for lone worker protection by police forces throughout the UK.
“I am, of course, delighted personally to have been selected as the recipient of this highly regarded award,” said Patrick Dealtry, “but I also see it as a welcome acknowledgement of the hard work carried out by so many people in the standards sector. Developing effective and useful standards is a difficult and painstaking yet essential task. In spite of this, those who work on standards go largely unrecognised and receive no payment for the considerable amount of time and effort they invest.” I am, therefore, pleased to accept the award not just for myself, but also for the dozens of others who have so generously donated their time to help enhance the functioning and regulation of our industry, and to improve safety and security for everyone.”
Patrick Dealtry was one of the founders of the Skyguard organisation. His clear insight into and innovative ideas about personal protection devices and related issues are a major asset to the company. Indeed earlier this year Patrick was instrumental in Skyguard becoming the first company to achieve BS 8484 – the Code of Practice for the Provision of Lone Worker Device Services – just one example of how Patrick has helped Skyguard to achieve the respected and prominent position that it enjoys today.
Patrick Dealtry was presented with his award by BSIA Chairman, Julie Kenny CBE DL at the BSIA’s Annual Lunch, which was held in July at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
