As the UK’s leading independent, UKAS accredited certification body operating in the security sector, NSI approval is a trusted hallmark for buyers of guarding services. NSI’s in-house team of highly trained auditors independently assess your business, reviewing your processes to ensure they are compliant with British and international standards. The audit report you receive helps your business to maintain a path of continual improvement for the benefit of your staff, your customers and your business.
Once your company successfully completes the NSI audit process your company will be listed on NSI’s website, www.nsi.org.uk, where buyers search to find reputable and trusted guarding companies. You are able to display the NSI approval logo on all your client-facing documentation, such as quotes, tenders and sales literature. Approved companies also display the trusted approval logo on their websites and vehicle livery.
The benefits of approval include:
• Building buyer trust and confidence
• Improving your capability to meet tender specifications
• Saving time and auditing costs by adding NSI’s SIA recognised ACS ‘passport specification’ to your NSI Guarding Gold approval
• Potential insurance premium savings for your customers
NSI Guarding criteria
To become NSI Guarding Gold or Silver approved requires a company to undergo and pass a twice yearly, independent, expert compliance audit. Audits are tailored according to the specific services for which you are seeking approval, and may include security guarding, key-holding, canine services, door supervision, close protection and CCTV operations. Your audit will include an in-depth assessment of front-line services, management systems, support infrastructure, staff welfare and benefits, and people development. The auditor will spend time at the head office and other administrative centres, as well as visiting customer sites and interviewing on-site security officers.
Auditors review a range of best practice criteria such as:
• Security screening of every employee, covering the right to work in the UK, managing risk to your business and protecting your clients.
• Compliance with British and international standards which prescribe key benchmarks ensuring the integrity of client-supplier relationships. These benchmarks include excellence in guarding service delivery, staff training, health and safety practices, contract management and customer services.
NSI Guarding approval: a passport to ACS
The NSI passport scheme offers a cost effective choice to security guarding contractors with a combined assessment covering both NSI Guarding approval and ACS.
There are currently 87 indicators in the ACS workbook of which 49 are directly cross-referenced as common criteria to ACS and NSI Guarding approval. NSI auditors cover these together thereby reducing the length of the audit should the two schemes be assessed independently. There is typically a saving of c25% in audit duration, depending on circumstances specific to the individual company.
The passport scheme is accredited by the SIA as offering aspects of assessment over and above the ACS standard route. Once approved, a company submits its NSI Guarding certificate with the inclusion of the NSI Passport Specification to the SIA as part of their ACS application. The SIA then conduct fit and proper checks before making its final decision on ACS approval.
