All door staff inspected on Friday night as part of checks by Security Industry Authority investigators and Fife Police were found to be working legally [18 September]. By law, door staff must hold a licence from the SIA and display this while working. During the intelligence-led operation, 17 door staff working in licensed premises in Kirkcaldy were inspected, all of whom held valid SIA licences. Sharon Roberts, an SIA Head of Investigation said: “I am very pleased with the result of this operation. Trained, vetted and SIA-licensed door staff play an important role in protecting customers.”
Steven Hamilton, Community Police Inspector for Kirkcaldy area said: “The joint operation between Fife Police and the SIA, testing the standards of those engaged in protecting the public attending licensed premises, allows us to measure and monitor the professionalism of the door staff in Kirkcaldy. The excellent compliance levels, and some recent acts of commendable assistance given to the public above and beyond the duties for which door staff are employed, is evidence that the strong partnership work in Kirkcaldy town centre, such as the ‘Pub Watch’ scheme, is creating a more pleasant environment for our community and those visiting to enjoy.”
