Yesterday, [9 July], at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, two door supervisors pleaded guilty to working illegally at a city centre bar.
Lloyd Harrop, 25 and Craig Langley 29, were both found working at Foo Foos bar on Bloom Street, Manchester, without a valid Security Industry Authority licence.
In October 2012, SIA investigators joined Greater Manchester Police in an operation to check that security operatives were properly licensed in Manchester City Centre. During the operation the two individuals were found working unlicensed and were arrested, interviewed and later charged by the police.
In court, Harrop and Langley were each fined £335 and ordered to pay costs of £118.
SIA Head of Investigation Lucia Howland said: “This is a very positive result and a clear example of the SIA’s commitment to prosecuting those who flout the law.
“We are committed to working alongside GMP to ensure that those working in the night time economy are properly trained and licensed to do so.”
Police Constable Simon Braithwaite said: “Security staff at licensed premises across the city and beyond are doing an extremely important job in keeping members of the public safe.
“They have to meet specific criteria before being accredited to work by the SIA; by working illegally they were putting members of the public at risk.
“This prosecution shows that we will work with the SIA to target those who are not licensed.”
