Skills for Security has accredited a unique Security Search Operations programme developed by Status Training. This four day course has been created to enable trainers to train teams of security personnel to carry out thorough, systematic searches of people, vehicles, premises and open spaces in support of specific events or as part of everyday security operations.
Peter Smith, CEO of Status Training, developed the course using his many years experience of conducting specialist police search operations, developing an expertise which culminated in his appointment as Head of the Police National Search Centre. Like Peter, the team of Status trainers who deliver the programme are all ex-police search specialists.
Explaining his reasons for developing the trainer training programme Peter said; “In today’s world, where the threat of international terrorism and the instances of people carrying concealed weapons and prohibited substances is not diminishing, search procedures must form an essential part of any security strategy. Future high profile international sporting events and the current requirement for vigilance against terrorist incidents in all areas of commercial and public life in the United Kingdom, requires quality assured search training that fully embraces the new National Occupational Standards for Security Search Operations. This course has been specifically designed to equip security trainers with sufficient knowledge and skills to develop properly trained teams who can search effectively.
The interactive and comprehensive training programme covers the threat from terrorism. including recognition of improvised explosive devices, their component parts and how they are used as a means of attack. The training involves classroom based learning and realistic search exercises culminating in practical assessments and a final multiple choice examination.
The first Security Search Operations course takes place between 26th-29th January in Worcester, with further dates planned throughout 2010.
