SIA CEO Welcomes Better Regulation Executive Review Finding

SIA chief executive Bill Butler today welcomed the positive findings of a Better Regulation review, while acknowledging opportunities to achieve further improvement. The Better Regulation Executive report found that overall the Security Industry Authority has made real progress in improving its performance as a regulator and is prioritising better regulation principles.

Bill Butler said: “I very much welcome the findings of the review. The positive report reflects the progress we have made and the work we have undertaken to achieve our goals. We have already made many improvements. But of course there is more to be done, and we will continue to address the areas highlighted by the BRE as we strive to further improve our performance as a regulator.”

The BRE report found that the work of the SIA has reduced criminality in the security industry; that communication with stakeholders has improved; and that the Approved Contractor Scheme has helped raise standards and encouraged exchange of good practice.  It was also found that the SIA understands the importance of working with businesses to secure compliance with the regulatory requirements. The report highlighted that the SIA could further improve performance by integrating risk assessment into strategic planning; and improving customer focus and some aspects of communication with stakeholders.  The review team felt that the SIA is in a strong position to makes these changes relatively easily.
