Skills for Security designated Issuing Authority for Security Sector Apprenticeships in England

David Greer

The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) has confirmed that Skills for Security is the sole designated Issuing Authority for English Apprenticeship frameworks for occupations in security. This currently encompasses the Security Systems and Providing Security Services frameworks, which have been issued today and are available to view on the Skills for Security website, but also includes responsibility for any future, additional frameworks that may be developed for security sector occupations.

As the English Issuing Authority, Skills for Security is directly accountable to the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and this new role is separate from Skills for Security’s established work as the Sector Skills Body for the private security industry.

Chief Executive, David Greer said:

“Skills for Security has always been a passionate advocate of apprenticeships as a means of raising professional standards within the industry. As an English Issuing Authority, we now take responsibility for the quality assurance of all English Apprenticeship frameworks for occupations in security. This ensures that they are fully compliant with the Specification of Apprenticeship Frameworks in England (SASE) and have been developed through consultation and collaborative working with employers and other stakeholders to ensure that they meet industry needs.”
