The University Centre Blackburn College, The Security Institute and Perpetuity Training are pleased to announce that successful completion of the Foundation Degree in Security Management offered by Blackburn College also allows the Security Institute’s Diploma in Security Management to be awarded.
This is the first time the Diploma course content and learning outcomes have been mapped into a higher educational award. The key benefit to the student is not only the achievement of two qualifications for one fee, but that the Diploma carries an automatic grade of membership (Graduate for those with less than five year’s security management experience, and Member for those who have five years or more).
Whilst on the course, students will also be eligible for complimentary student membership of the Security Institute as part of this ground-breaking initiative.
The Lancaster University-validated Foundation Degree in Security Management is brand new for 2012. The learning will be delivered through online distance learning and up to six three day workshops each year. The FdA Security Management is one of very few security qualifications available in the UK. The programme is designed for those already working in security management roles seeking to increase their professionalism. Applicants who do not have an academic history but have relevant work / life experience will be welcomed.
Blackburn college is the largest further education college in Pennine Lancashire providing employment focused vocational courses, apprenticeships, A Levels, degrees and professional qualifications to 15,000 students and 1,000 employers for over 120 years, and over £50 million continued investment in state of the art student facilities. They were the first college in Pennine Lancashire to receive an Outstanding Ofsted inspection – ‘A League of their own’ Ofsted Report in January 2011.
In addition to the arrangement with the Security Institute, the College has established partnerships with leading Universities and professional bodies including Lancaster University, University of Central Lancashire, University of Glamorgan, CIPD, CIM CMI, CIPS, ILM and AAT.
Welcoming the initiative Mike Bluestone, Chairman of the Security Institute said ‘we are delighted to be part of this excellent initiative developed with Perpetuity Training and Blackburn College. Working together provides tremendous educational opportunities for students that go the extra mile to offer something more. Marrying a foundation degree with a vocational qualification, and more importantly, Institute membership, will be a real benefit in underpinning a person’s commitment to a career in professional security.’
