In a Statement released on their website, the BSIA has announced today that James Kelly will be stepping down as Chief Executive of the Association. Whilst a replacement is sought, David Wilkinson, Director of Technical Services will oversee the responsibilities of the role as the search for a new Chief Executive commences.

In October 2017, the SIA began an investigation into Irfan Dogan, owner and manager of Cobra Security Services based in Leicester. As the investigation progressed Dogan’s licence expired on 8 January 2018 but he continued to operate as the manager of Cobra Security Services. As a manager of a security company, he was required to be licensed under the Private Security Industry Act (2001).

On Thursday 18 October 2018, Wirral brothers' Kyle James Owen (27) and Ryan Arthur Owen (24) were sentenced at Wirral Magistrates' Court for committing offences under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 (PSIA).
Ryan Owen had been the Director of Owens Security Solutions Ltd. When his licence was suspended in June 2017 by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), he appointed his brother Kyle as director in order for the company to continue trading but he did not remove himself as a director and despite his suspension continued to work in licensable roles.

From 7 November 2018 Trevor Reaney will become a Member of the Security Industry Authority (SIA), with specific responsibilities for Northern Ireland. He will join the Board, taking over from outgoing Member Professor Sir Desmond Rea.
Trevor brings to the SIA a breadth of skills and experience. He was formerly the Clerk and Chief Executive to the Northern Ireland Assembly between 2008 and 2016.

Today, Thursday 4 October 2018, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) is launching a consultation on the revised eligibility and ‘fit and proper' criteria requirements for private security businesses seeking approval to the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS). The criteria have been updated as part of the fundamental review of the scheme.
A new publication ‘Get Approved' has been produced which contains all of the eligibility criteria requirements for the ACS. The SIA is seeking views on the new document before Friday 16 November.
