The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has welcomed the sentencing of four cash-in-transit robbers, which took place at the Old Bailey on Monday. The offenders, who were responsible for several robberies in London netting them £100,000 and targeting late night cash deliveries to cash machines, received hefty sentences totalling 27 years. A recent survey conducted by the UK chapter of ASIS had a response from 25% of its 720 members with a clear message on the way forward for regulation in the private security industry. The two major groups of respondents were In House/Corporate Security (41%) and Consultants (30.6%). New funding for anti-knife crime work
A £250,000 fund for projects run by young people to tackle knife crime was launched by Home Secretary Theresa May and Brooke Kinsella today.The new Ben Kinsella Fund will be administered by youth charity the Prince's Trust.Fifty grants will be available for young people to run positive anti-knife crime activities in their local area. A recent a survey conducted by the SIA Small Business network found little opposition to the continuation of regulation of the private security industry. Equally importantly, over 90% of approximately 200 respondents favoured business registration with minimum standards in the regulated security sector.
