Crimestoppers, the UK’s anonymous crime information charity, received an unprecedented number of calls following last month’s riots in London. Some 2,675 tip-offs were received in August following the civil disobedience. At over six times the normal level of activity, this represented a major challenge to the Crimstoppers Trust.
Michael Gordon-Gibson, Head of Operations at Crimestoppers, explains: “The demand was phenomenal. The response to the publication of images following the riots and looting led to our busiest period ever – demand increased by over five times normal levels.”

MITIE has secured a four-year minor works and maintenance contract with the West Midlands Construction Framework valued up to £350 million, with the possibility of a further two-plus-two years extension.
Current works include reactive and planned repair and maintenance to all nonhousing Council owned buildings, primarily with the Birmingham City Council South area.

The aviation security business of MITIE, the strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has been awarded a three year contract to provide hold baggage screening at Heathrow International Airport.
The contract with the Heathrow AOC will see MITIE working with airlines to screen all checked baggage passing through terminals one, two, three and four, which serves over 42 million passengers a year.
