On Friday the 22nd of November 2019, the National Cyber Security Centre Cyber Schools Hub’s EmPowerCyber event will be held. The event, sponsored by Securitas and Allcooper, will see 800 female year eight students from all across Gloucestershire take part.
The Cyber Schools Hub program is aimed at promoting cooperation between the National Cyber Centre, technology companies and local schools with a focus on encouraging an interest in computer science amongst students. Since the program began participating schools have seen a marked increase in computer science GCSE and A-Level enrolment.
At the event, 16 supporting industries will be running cyber workshops with over 80 industry personnel in attendance with the aim of encouraging the students to take part in next year’s CyberFirst competition. CyberFirst 2020 will be held in January.
Allcooper and Securitas’ involvement includes covering the cost of the event’s industry lunch which will take part amid the interactive workshops designed to excite and inspire girls to look at a career in cyber security and IT industries.
The workshops will be centred around Cryptography, Cyber Security, Logic & Coding and networking in preparation for the CyberFirst competition. They will be led by experts from a number of companies involved with the industry.
